The Ross of Mull and Iona Gala is a fortnight every summer spent celebrating this beautiful area and its people. It begins every July with a float parade down the main street in Fionnphort and an opening night ceilidh. The next two weeks are packed with events, performances and activities held all over the Ross of Mull and Iona. The programme varies each year but normally includes lots of food and music, as well as favourites such as the annual Sound of Iona Dinghy Race, the Bunessan Fives Football Tournament, the Scarecrow Trail, and the Open Garden Trail. The whole thing is brought to a close every year by the Bunessan Show Dance. These couple of weeks of fun are a great way to foster community spirit and to show visitors the very best aspects of living here.
SWMID supported the setup of the first Gala in 2015 and it is now a separate organisation with an enthusiastic and pro-active committee. They do a tremendous amount of fundraising and organising to make the events bigger and better every year.
2019’s Gala will take place from Friday 19th July to Friday 2nd August – get involved and keep up to date with what’s happening by checking out the Ross of Mull and Iona Gala on Facebook!
