Community Garden

The Ross of Mull Community Garden is a vibrant and welcoming space that has grown out of the community's desire to create somewhere for people to meet and work together, and to produce more fresh produce locally - reducing food miles while increasing local food resilience. We also use the space as a tree nursery for replanting in Tiroran Community Forest.

The garden is located in the grounds of the Ross of Mull Historical Centre and we are very grateful to them for offering us this site to cultivate and for their enthusiasm and willingness to work with us.

Please drop in and visit the garden at any time - there is so much to see!

We successfully raised funds for a polytunnel which is enabling us to extend our growing season and the range of fresh food we can grow.

Our Community Gardener is Lorraine McCafferty. You can contact her on the e-mail address below.

What we’re working on…

FROM THE BEGINNING

FROM THE BEGINNING

In Summer 2020, the Ross of Mull Historical Centre in Bunessan invited SWMID to develop the community garden in their grounds. The site was very overgrown but volunteers of all ages, including local school children, got stuck in taking their turn to clear shrubs and brambles, plant beautiful natural hedges, and construct raised beds, compost bins and a potting shed.

PLAY & LEARNING SPACE

PLAY & LEARNING SPACE

The garden is providing a regular playing, growing and learning place for Nature Club, run by the local Ranger Service; Class 1 at Bunessan Primary School who have a raised bed there; and a parent and toddler group, the Little Brambles
