Tiroran Community Forest and Sawmill

Tiroran Community Forest is SWMID's flagship project and has been in community ownership since November 2015. The purchase of the forest has been an incredible opportunity for us to start addressing some of the issues that are important to local people. We have created new jobs, generated income through selling timber for new projects like Bendoran and Aird Fada Seaweed Farm, replanted tens of thousands of broadleaf and diverse conifer trees, and started to open up the forest for local people and visitors to enjoy. Thanks to funding from the Prince's Countryside Fund and Scottish Forestry, we have recently purchased a sawmill to process our timber. We anticipate that we will be able to start trading early in 2023.
