In Summer 2020, the Ross of Mull Historical Centre in Bunessan invited SWMID to develop the community garden in their grounds. The site was very overgrown but volunteers of all ages, including local school children, got stuck in taking their turn to clear shrubs and brambles, plant beautiful natural hedges, and construct raised beds, compost bins and a potting shed.
The garden is providing a regular playing, growing and learning place for Nature Club, run by the local Ranger Service; Class 1 at Bunessan Primary School who have a raised bed there; and a parent and toddler group, the Little Brambles.
Thanks to a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund we have been able to employ a Community Gardener, Lorraine McCafferty. Join her for weekly volunteer sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays 10-1.
