Operations Assistant Role

South West Mull and Iona Development (SWMID) is looking for an Operations Assistant. Initially for 6 months, this new role is offered at £15.00 per hour for 30 hours a week.
This position is funded by Argyll and Bute Council to provide roles for unemployed residents of Argyll and Bute. These placements are fully funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
Placement details:
Up to £100 per person work clothing/PPE allowance
Training monies available determined on an individual basis
Each participant will have a dedicated Employability Support Worker to assist with job search, interview skills, in work support, etc.
We are looking for a hands-on and dependable Operations Assistant to support the development and maintenance of key SWMID assets, including Bendoran Boatyard, the Bunessan Community Garden, and Aird Fada Seaweed Farm. This is a physical and varied role, ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, supporting community infrastructure, and keeping things running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the development and upkeep of Bendoran Boatyard
Work with the Community Gardener to maintain and support the Bunessan Community Garden
Assist with seaweed processing operations and general equipment handling
Be a point of contact for community members using or visiting SWMID sites
Assist with logistics and setup for events and activities delivered by the wider team
Maintain shared community facilities
Ideal Candidate:
Practical and reliable, with an interest in rural infrastructure
Good communication skills and ability to work both independently and with the wider team
Comfortable with physical tasks and outdoor working
Willingness to be flexible and responsive to the needs of a small, community-led organisation
