Great news for our Woodland Crofts!

03/02/2022

We are delighted that, after many years of work and delays, we now have an advertisement in the Oban Times for registration of our Woodland Crofts! The application was submitted to the Crofting Commission last June and has finally gone through the first steps of the process to be advertised for public comment. Anyone who may have an interest in the application has 28 days, from 3rd February 2022, to send comments to the Commission.

All comments are taken into consideration - comments may be in support of the crofts or objecting to them. Once the period of 28 days has ended, the Crofting Commission will exam the application with reference to comments received, the public interest, the interest of the crofting community in the locality, and whether social or economic benefits might be expected from the crofts.

Woodland crofts have been on the agenda of SWMID for many years now, in response to the aspirations expressed by the local community at many of our consultations. Woodland crofts offer crofters the opportunity to develop woodland-based enterprises with security of tenure. We are also working with Argyll and Bute Council to try to ensure that potential crofters will be able to live on their croft in the future.

If you would like to know more about our proposed woodland crofts and the benefits we believe they will bring to the area, please click on the link below. If you want to contact us directly to find out more, please email Celia.

We look forward to hearing from you and will keep you updated with progress!

Please note that comments should be sent to the Crofting Commission, Great Glen House, Leachkin Road, Inverness IV3 8NW - info@crofting.gov.scot.
