Tiroran Community Forest

Tiroran Community Forest has been in community ownership since November 2015. The purchase of the 789ha forest on behalf of the communities of South West Mull and Iona was made possible by the National Forest Land Scheme, with grants from the Scottish Land Fund and a loan from Social Investment Scotland.

The forest is SWMID’s flagship project and has already enabled us to start addressing some of the issues that affect people in our area. Since 2015 we have created three new jobs, generated income through selling timber for new projects like Bendoran, replanted 28,000 broadleaf and diverse conifer trees and started to open up the forest for local people and visitors to enjoy.

Once you leave the forest through the rear entrance you might like to head to the Whitetail Gin and Coffee House  for a pit stop, then head back along the road past Pennyghael in the Past to the car park or return the way you came.

Our community forester is Philip Yielder and he can be contacted about anything related to the forest on pyielder@swmid.co.uk.
